Hand on legs

Much of what we have been taught about sexuality – if anything at all – has been rooted in shame, inadequacy, and inaccuracy. This interactive course will create space for unlearning and re-imagining new ways of thinking, questioning, talking, and learning about sex. Students will be invited to explore the nuanced topic of human sexuality and its many elements such as anatomy, gender, sexual orientation, pleasure, trauma, consent, and boundaries. Students will learn how these elements connect to forms of identity, social power, and systems of oppression such as sexism, racism, classism, ableism, transphobia, and homophobia. This understanding is necessary to providing holistic and inclusive care to a diverse group of clients and the people we interact with in our daily lives. Students will develop knowledge and tools to be able to support a range of clients with a range of needs and experiences. Working with the body is powerful and it is critical that practitioners understand how power has impact and how to create environments where people feel more empowered instead of disempowered. Learning in this course will happen through a variety of mediums such as discussions, games, written reflections, and scenarios. All learners and ways of learning are welcome – as long as you come with an open mind! The overall goal of the course is to ultimately expand your understanding of sexuality and therefore expand your understanding of healing, health, and wellness.
