Beyond the Gut: Healing Your Most Vital Relationships with Cathy Cochrane
10 am: Studies show that having a supportive community is essential to health and healing. It’s no longer uncommon to hear that the microbiome is among those essential communities. According to microbiologist Martin J. Blaser, it’s realistic to say that the micro-organisms in your body play a role in just about every aspect of health. More than popping a daily probiotic, nurturing your relationship with your friendly flora might just be the best form of self-care you can undertake. You help them and they’ll help you. Let’s talk about how to do just that.
Conversations on... Microbiome and the Endocannabinoid System with Cathy Cochrane and Monica Giacomin
11 am: The endo-what?! The more we learn about the human body, its physiology and nervous system, the more we understand some of the subtler communications that create the harmonious flow of homeostasis. At the core of the messaging systems lies a series of receptors that, depending on how they are stimulated or inhibited, will help us feel good or drag us down, mentally, emotionally as well as physically. It’s also becoming clear that the endocannabinoid system interacts – as with every other system in the body – with the microbiome. Join our herbology and nutrition teachers as they chat about it all, and what it might mean for your health.
Probiotic and Prebiotic Food and Herbs with Monica Giacomin
12 pm: Our microbiome is a collection of ~40 trillion different organisms living in your gut and throughout your body… communicating and ensuring that all is well, or whether your defensive system needs to kick into gear. This vast world of microbes plays a critical role in our development, digestion and immune health. Monica will discuss the role that our microbiome plays and more importantly, how we can nourish our microbiome with our food, herbs and lifestyle choices.
The Gut/Brain Connection with Carina Raisman
1 pm: The « gut feeling » is being proved by research to extend beyond a proverbial saying and into a scientific truth. Come learn how the higher centres of the brain are actually deep down in the gut; and how together they coordinate, regulate, and communicate our thoughts and our feelings into physiological balance.
