Abhyanga: Ayurvedic Massage Training

Abhyanga: Ayurvedic Bodywork / Massage Training:

Originating in India thousands of years ago, Abhyanga is a classic Ayurvedic therapeutic hot oil massage. This full-body massage aims to strengthen, nourish and relax the body, mind and nervous system using a technique of long and circular strokes, light, and grounding pressure. It’s administered to detoxify the various subtle bodies & circulatory channels and balance meridians, chakras and doshas. Warm medicinal oil decocted with ayurvedic herbs stimulates vital energy (prana) and rejuvenates and nourishes bodily tissues such as adipose, muscle, lymphatic, blood and arterial circulation.

Students will learn:
• A brief overview of the foundations, origins, and principles of Ayurveda: The doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kappa) and their role in balancing or rebalancing the body and mind.
• How to quickly evaluate the client ‘imbalance’ & choose appropriate oil accordingly
• Required materials (not included): – One set of sheets per student. Sheets that are not new are recommended due to the large amount of oil used. An apron and a hat (or other) to protect the oiled head before going outside. A hand towel (and towel and other shower items – optional). Students are recommended to dress accordingly.
