Description
Trigger Point Therapy is a technique commonly used by massage therapists to address localized muscular tension and pain areas. Trigger points are hyperirritable knots or tight bands within muscles that can cause referred pain and discomfort. Massage therapists can effectively release these knots and alleviate associated symptoms by understanding trigger point patterns and employing specific techniques.
During a Trigger Point Therapy session, the massage therapist applies direct pressure to the identified trigger points. This pressure is often sustained or may involve gentle, repetitive movements to encourage the release of the tension held within the muscle fibres. The therapist may also incorporate stretching, deep tissue massage, or other complementary techniques to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment.
Trigger Point Therapy can benefit individuals experiencing chronic pain, muscular imbalances, tension headaches, fibromyalgia, and sports injuries. By targeting trigger points, massage therapists can help relieve pain, improve range of motion, and restore optimal muscle function.
